Front Brakes job $300???

Hi all,

I took in my 02 maxima for 60,000 mile service to a nissan dealer, and they told me that I need the following in addition to my 60k servicing done:

  1. Replace Front brake pads (85% worn out) - 0
  2. Clean Fuel induction system - 5
  3. Replace timing belt as it has cracks - 5
  4. Replace microfilter - 5

I am not very sure if its expensive or worth the money. I would really appreciate if anyone can let me know what these things actually cost.

Also, as you can tell, so far I have taken my car only to the dealer for servicing. I am starting to think is it time to start going to other places like MIDAS or Jeffy Lube or someone else. Can anyone please suggest if one is better than other.

thank you all in advance, thank you,

-B

I would pass on the fuel system treatment and microfilter change. For brakes and accessory belt, why not. Avoid Midas for brakes, they are trouble.

I would pass on that dealers service Dept. they are trying rob you "BIG" time. Also stay clear of MIDAS and Jeffy Lube they are no better. I would check out a Rapid muffler and brake shop I have been treat fairly by the one in my City. Find a good small independent repair shop to do the engine checking and needed repairs. I see no reason to Clean Fuel induction system or service that microfilter. Just go to any WalMart and get a a quality fuel injector cleaner and put it in your gas tank they works wonders. As for the outer engine belts the small independent repair shop can replace them a lot cheaper if they really need replacing then that robing dealers service vampires.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions guys. The dealer is just talking about replacing the front 2 brake pads and doing resurfacing(??) job. I was browsing through the newsgroups and some folks have been saying that they got the same things done at nearly half the price the price. Hence I am little apprehensive about having the dealer do it.

I want a good job done for my car, but at the same time I also dont want to get ripped off. As we recently move to Framingham, MA area, I would greatly appreciate if you anyone can recommend good auto repair shops around this area.

thank you for all your help,

-B
