I would like to make the ride in my 2001 Maxima gle smoother. I have the standard 16 " tires which are Futura touring 80k mile rating which I also have on my 94 Max, but the ride is stiff and noticeably hard. I assue that the struts are standard also but not positive. Air pressure is correct so Its not that. What can I do to achieve a softer ride without spending a fortune? You guys have always been great. I look forward to any responses. Thank You!

And what air pressure is that? If ride quality is an issue, I suggest no more than 34psi in front and 32psi in back.
One option is to go for lower speed rated tires - z and y rated tires have stiffer sidewalls that ride more firmly. I guess softer struts would work too, but that's kind of salty.

You could try changing the tire/wheel combo from 16" wheels to 15". What this will do is let you change to tires with more sidewall ... from the 55 or maybe 50 series you have now to 60 series, perhaps even
Be sure to pick wheels that clear the brakes... shouldn't be too hard as Maxima's don't have a very large diameter brake setup. Select a tire size that keeps the same rolling diameter as the old tires with as close to the same tread width as you can get... this will mean a taller sidewall tire is needed. Once you've picked the tire, you'll have the final bit of information to complete sizing the wheel: the rim width needed. Tirerack.com has some excellent guidance for keeping your ride safe when changing wheel/tire sizes.
