key fob 406!

Hi all, anyone know how to re-prog a keyfob (ir type,2 buttons and led ) for my 406 please? I bought the key off e,bay and have tried the re-boot inst on

but it wont work. i think the key re-boot is for other type fob. any help would be great as i`m going to have to go to peugeot and they want £50!!!! help!!!!

what year 406? with or without keypad? infra red or HF radio?

Is the key you bought brand new? Have you checked whether the key is Primary or Secondary?

Hi Jeff,

He said IR. I only know old remotes (like on 405s) and I wonder if the 406's remote is hard-coded, too ?

All you have to do is:

turn the key to position 2 hold both buttons for 10 seconds let go of the buttons & press the big button take the key out & it 'SHOULD' work.

I've done it with my 2000 SRI & my mates 1999 Exec & worked both times.

sorry i didnt leave enough info the 1st time hope this helps; the car is

406,1999 2l gtx 4 door saloon.the key fob was 2nd hand ,i bought it off ebay.its the infra red type with 2 buttons.(1 big and 1 small and has a red led.inside the fob housing the small white sticker says secondary! thanks very much for any help!!!

thanks for the help folks. the car is 1999 406 2l gtx, 4 door saloon. car has no keypad inside.the remote type is the infra red type which i bought off ebay!(2nd hand) thanks for any info!!

is your original key an ir type too?

hi all! yes jeff my own key fob is original ir type as well as the new(2nd hand)one. keys look exact same except inside the ebay key has sticker saying secondary.and the small electronic plate inside fob is slightly diff!! thanks for any help folks!
