2002 Grand Prix interior rattles

Hi,

I've got an '02 Grand Prix which has a few rattles that sound as though they are coming from the rear seat/rear deck area on the passenger side of the vehicle. When I tap on the rear deck with my hand, I can hear the rattle. However, I can't seem to find anything loose from inside the trunk (thought it might be a loose speaker). From what I've heard, in order to get to the rear deck on these cars, the rear seat needs to be removed. Has anybody out there had any experience in removing the rear seat on a Grand Prix, or does anybody know where I might find out how to do this (besides the dealership)? Any suggestions to help rid the car of these rattles would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! Ron

Check behind some of the trunk trim for any loose wire harness connectors. They are generally anchored down with nylon ties.

Other trunk rattles :

Spare Tire. Jack. Lug wrench. sparetire cover. Loose decklid lock mechanism. loose spoiler. loose wireharness that run through decklid. speaker covers, under shelf, accesible via trunk. Loose seat. Folding seat backs not properly latched closed.

Manual pull release handle for gas tank door sometimes slips thru a slit in the side wall and T handle rattles against 1/4 panel.

Good luck

My 2000 Gp had a rattle from the trunk area. It turned out there is a square access panel that lets you get at the 3rd brake light in the window. It's in the trunk below the rear shelf. The panel kinda just hangs there and doesn't snap in tight. Mine rattles unless I postion it just right. Sometimes it falls off and I find it in the trunk.Check it out

As someone who has experienced many GM products, you're largely correct. There is one aberration, though, in the dozens of GM vehicles I've ridden in or driven.

My mom's ratty '00 Pontiac Montana with 83k miles is tight as a drum. I can't figure it out. Other GM minivans I've driven rattle like they're full of mexican jumping beans (a rental Silhouette I had was so bad I couldn't even believe it). Not my mom's Pontiac, though. All I can figure is that it was built as part of some demo to executives or something. Oh yeah, and they bought it used with 30k on the clock... as an ex-rental!!!
