Should the wire be of some particular shape or gauge?

I tried using four finishing nails which would fit the holes but with a little "slop". (They were slightly undersize or could have been a little larger gauge) Then I tried, with the nals in place to pull out the radio using the cassette opening to get a hold of the radio. I tugged but the radio remained firmly in place.

In reading the owner's literature supplied with the car, it says that their two "u"s latch in and that you pull on them to remove the radio.How they are removed later, it does not say. I am guuessing that their "u"s release as the radio clears the opening.

Can anyone assist, please?

The ends of the U's are notched. When you push them in, they latch, so you know when to stop.

By pushing outward/inwards (depends on the exact radio/cage fitted), they disengage the clips that hold the radio in place.

because they latch you can feel the radio start to slip forward slightly as you pull on the tools.

If you don't have the tools (they are really pennies to buy from a decent audio dealer), then nails or coathanger wire can be used, but you need to push the clips to disengage them, and pull the radio through at the same time with a third hand. Tricky, but can be done. Easier to have the wire in one side, and with one hand discengage the clips, pull through the cassete hole so the unit comes forward on that side (slightly twists int he cage), the hold the unit steady through the cassete hole, release pressure on the tool, and do the other side. not easy, not convenient, but do able and gets easier with practice.
