saab 900 NG does not start pls help

The check engine light should be on before start of engine. An engine that doesn't start is deprived of one of: spark, fuel or air.

Car starts agian. Cleaned at corrosion from distributor cap. Didn't know that that was so sensitive. Always assumed that the sparks will go easily trhough it

Too right it's sensitive. On cars with, er, traditional ignition systems, keeping components clean and adjusted (dirt, corrosion, connector seatings) seems to pay.

Back when the state of spark plugs was more critical than it now seems to be, I became quite skilled at cleaning and resetting the gaps. (There are subtle issues, too complex to go into here.)

Does anyone know, is it still true that engine oil will speed the perishing of plug leads? I got into the habit of wiping down the leads (paper towel moistened with white spirit) now and then. At least the engine looked cleaner afterwards.
