Saab Complaint

Anything below a 530 or M5 is below me, and usally behind. Especially when I'm crossing the pennines on the M62.

Ah but a Jag with a V12. Hmm, always had a softspot for E-Types, and all the XJ models (yes even the lumpy XJS).

We share a comon ,wistful, soft spot for the "x"s

I just recall when Juguar hit Canada about 6 to 8 yoars after the Second World War.(As I recall those Hillmans and Vauxhalls and Austin Sheerlines hit then too. Pity but they were never built for North American Highways. I burnt two pistons out of a Minx) But I digress. When Jag entered Canada you could buy a Jag Saloon for about the price of a Buick 3 holer. I have always thought that all thoughs Buick buyers were MAD!!! My father was one.

What was it about the Austin Mini, What did it have that inspired Cooper to install the Climax, and what did it have that allowed a school friend(we were 18 or 19 to do some minor mods which permitted him and 3 others to drive from Niagara District in canada round trip to Miami, FL averaging 60 mph (that's about 100kph) and stopping only for gas and to pick up food and spend the christmas vaacation in Florida..

Apparently some locals on the way got a kick out of front wheel chains.

But again I digress.

Ah those WJs, Xks, XKEs.........

I may never forgive my father may he rest in peace.

I came "that close" to selling Orca for a red and chrome XJS V12 'vert. It purred. Orca growls. When I'm a more refined person, perhaps ...

In article , snipped-for-privacy@lamelamelame.org spouted forth into alt.autos.saab...

Was considering planning a Saab based team for the "Staples to Naples" run.

From a South of England Staples stationary store, to Naples.

Maybe in the next few years. Maybe find a nice cheapish early 9k Turbo, something big and bold and comfy.

The big cat only purrs when standard, did you ever hear the TWR and Lister XJS's and and XJ Saloons.

Yep, another great. The Mini is one of the few small cars I can comfortably drive. The GF can't understand why I drive largish cars (by UK standards).

She owned a Mini Metro, a Vauxhall/Opel Corsa, and Now a Skoda Fabia (not all my doing I might add).

She thought the Estelle that I had was too long, but I could easily fit in with leg room for rear passangers, The Favorit looked like a small hatchback (in the same class as the original VW Polo), but with nearly as big as a MK IV Golf inside and out, and now the Saab.

At least the Fabia is a decent size, so we can both drive it if needed. And when I sliced my hand open she was able to drive the Saab to get me to Casualty (if you don't move my car, you can't get hers out, so it was quicker just to use mine). Didn't like it at first, and still thought it was too big, even when she was used to driving it.

Now that I have become a man... I still respect and have a real soft spot for the "X"s but I will never own anything but a Saab

Hardcore, dude :)

I know the feeling though. After three classic 900s, I can't see myself not having a Saab in the family.

Standard sounds good - that's how I like my 900 .... But, when my wife blew the exhaust back box off, it sounded good :)

"Upped" X Jag engines sound like fun. Perhaps I don't need to be as refined as I think ...

I can't find a weblink, but practical classics, a few months ago had a mini-feature on a company in Coventry that takes Old Jags (XJ6, XJ12, XJ Coupe, Daimler varients), and restores them to immaculate condition, and uprates the brakes and suspension to as modern as it can do, and then fits a 400bhp+ tuned V12 (no cat, no restrictions with emission controls), converted to run nicely on unleaded with throttle body fuel injection.

There is also Vicarage Jaguar if you're well heeled.

With markup on the part, markup on the labor, disposal fee for the oil, disposal fee for the filter...yeah, a $13 oil filter should be worth about $50. Look what an aspirin in the hospital costs!
