Lots of ebay listings are like this, cheap to buy, expensive to ship. I think the sellers get this stuff, whatever it is, either cheap or free, sell it for next to nothing, and make their money on the shipping.

But I wouldn't want to pay that much for shipping...
This is actually a violation of Ebay rules. They are doing this to avoid sellier fees. At the end of auctions you are charged a final value fee (what the auction ending price is), not a final value plus shipping charges fee. I think it says something about the sellers character on these auctions and avoid them. This one is so blatant I just reported them, and I have never done that before.

If you look at that auction, you'll also see the shipping costs are non-refundable. So, if it's completely trashed when it arrives, or not as described, all you get back is the actual auction price.

Does ebay not know, or care? How could they not? The guy is a "Power Seller," but is costing them more than he is making them.
The practice obviously violates the very principle of an auction, and ebay is the only loser, if a buyer feels the item is a good buy, delivered to his door.
If you came across the item at a swap meet, would you pay that price for the item if you needed it, and felt the price was fair?....
Overnight to Maine? May not be to far out of line. Nothing wrong with starting at $0.99. I do it all the time. Let eBay set the price.
It's not a $0.99 starting bid, it's a Buy It Now price of $0.99. And if you scroll down in the auction, it clearly states that the shipping costs are non refundable:
Seller's payment instructions Shipping costs are non refundable

65 CruiserI attribute my near perfect feedback to avoiding this kind of practice. I charge actual shipping cost, and believe that the practice attracts more bids & gets me better prices & better feedback. I have a pr. of Indy 500 tickets up on ebay now, & am offering FREE shipping.

Who says you have to have an item shipped THEIR way? Some tima ago, I bid on an antique radio (not a car radio), and before I bid, I asked the seller how much he would charge if all he would have to do is package it up, and I handle the shipping. We agreed on a price if I was the high bidder that he would charge me $10 to package it up and call DHL when ready to ship it to my office collect. The shipping charges only amounted to something like $9 so I did save about 1/3 off what his ad originally stated where he would charge $30 shipping & handling. I did get the radio for a good price as his stated shipping charge did seem to scare off any serious bidders on it.

I just bought a part on Ebay that cost me a whopping 98 cents. He has $10 shipping and boxing charges on his ad. When I asked him to reconsider the $10, and charge me the $2 it was going to cost him, he gave me grief, saying that he would have to stand in line at the post office. I said "OK, I will comply with your ad, but I will also respond with the appropriate feedback"

Hey you agreed to his terms when you won the auction. . .so stop your bitchn'
Bitchin?? Where do you get the idea I was 'bitchin'? All I did was explain how I was able to successfully change the terms of shipping from just 'his' terms to 'our' terms to which he agreed. I negotiated to where all the seller had to do was basically package it up(which he had to do regardless), and then simply to pick up the phone and call DHL to come to his door and get it. This saved that seller, who got a positive feedback from me BTW, the extra work of making a trip to the Post Office, waiting in line, etc. resulting in reduced shipping & handling charges for me.
Craig.
You do know that the USPS has a program called Carrier Pickup, where you call and let the PO know that you have packages to pick up and your carrier takes them.
Chip

You d> > I won't stand in the at the post office for even a $10.00 item, I
Well, I see something changed on this one. It is now a $150 BIN and $30 in shiping.
