CT-20 turbo questions

I have a 1986 Toyota 22R-TE with a CT-20 turbo that has blown out. I am having trouble finding a rebuilt turbo to replace it. Does anyone have a good place to get a rebuilt CT-20 turbo at a resonable price? The next question i have, Does anyone know of a way to remove the turbo and keep the engine running with decent power? I have tried in the past to remove the turbo but the engine has zero power. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

If yours cannot be rebuilt due to lack of parts, then any similar sized and flow rate turbo can be used, with whatever adapting modifications are necessary. Have you enquired at the local turbo shop about having your's rebuilt?

Yes, update the head to increase the compression from the current approx 7.8 to 9.5 or so, replace the cams with ones more suitable for a normally aspirated engine, and change the engine management system. In other words, completely change the engine. Its cheaper to do the above replacement turbo route.

There's no cheap way to take the turbo off and expect the engine to run normally.

If it is a CT20, then I think import MR2 turbo models came with a CT20, as did the jap/europe model ST205.

Might want tocheck out any US MR2 turbo tuners as they will know what a CT20 is, while some general turbo places might only be experienced with Garret, and not Toyota turbos.

This is a common misconception - the celica/MR2 came with the CT26 in various guises, one of which is widely knows as the CT20"b"
