On second thought, I'm not sure if it's really rubber or some sort of plastic. Does it matter?
Hmmm...tranny fluid may turn acidic with age. I would use a good silicone spray instead...
A few drops of ATF or a coating of silicone grease used for plumbing should do the trick. WD-40 or motor oil would not be good.
