{OT} just one more result of liberalism

Illiterates: True, but you won't solve that problem through the schools alone. My son had some pretty brutal English teachers. Even so, it's my brilliant opinion that he got to be a great writer because his mother and I never stopped telling that we expected him to achieve a certain level of proficiency. Without the parents sending the same message as the teachers, half the formula is missing.

Now, about sex education: There have been plenty of surveys which indicate that 1/3 (or more) of parents tell their kids NOTHING about sex. It stands to reason that those same parents have low expectations for their kids' academic achievements, so my conclusion is that some of those kids will not be resourceful enough to find accurate information on their own.

What do you suppose are some of the results of misinformation, or lack of information?

Exactly. It's laziness, with another prominent example of how it's not politically correct to point out spelling errors on usenet.

LOL (and you don't see me use that one often):

Pregnancy, STDs, infertility, death, economic woes, increased crime, and destroyed lives.

But these could also apply to politics at any level.

Good. Now, just to be clear, you wrote a phrase above beginning with the word "Pregnancy". Three questions:

1) Do you agree that you wrote it?

2) Do you still believe, after writing it, that those are some of the results of sexual ignorance?

3) Let's say you were the king of California, and you could eliminate sex ed instantly, by decree. How would you mop up the results caused by your decision?

WHO?

I kind of doubt that teen single-mom births are counted differently over there than over here, especially when the rates vary by 2:1. Also in countries with socialized medicine, people seek treatment more than they do in the US, so if anything I'd expect more undercounting here.

Are you suggesting that the US actually has lower rates of teen VD and pregnancy, and if so, what's your proof or explanation?

Reality says it doesn't work out that way. Do you have any proof that it does? I don't mean just isolated examples because they can be found to prove any practice or viewpoint but numbers showing rates of infection and pregnancies.

People like Dbu, Scott, Mike, and BadGolferMan.

Actually most parents, usually barely a majority, are for it.

That's really misleading, outright false information, Mike.

Condoms are highly effective at stopping STDs and pregnancies, and a couple of studies have found this to be true even with married couples where one member of each was HIV+. One of those studies, involving about 200 couples, found that each uninfected person remained uninfected even after a year, the limit of that study.

OTOH abstinence-only programs have one of the lowest rates of effectiveness, if not the lowest (Kaiser Family Foundation), and the only people claiming otherwise are their sponsors.

Principal's office? They're the freakin' problem. Several dozen at a school board meeting were far more effective.

No question. That's why you mandate the signatures. At least the parents

Not too far from the mark.

I can't. It's just what I've seen over the years, and actually I was surprised because I thought most parents were against sex ed in schools.

Ah. Too bad you couldn't at least find it on Fox News.

I'm honored that you are including me in such distinguished company. What have I done to deserve such recognition? Tell me so I can uphold the expectations you have.

larry is his own opinion poll and fact machine.
