Toyota turns fastest lap for winter testing

Unlike NASCAR, these really are Toyotas, or at least real Toyota engines, tweaked by Toyota and teram engineers:

The good weather continued at Barcelona for the last day of official winter testing before the start of the 2008 Formula 1 season. Panasonic Toyota Racing used the time available to carry out final preparations for the Australian Grand Prix, now just over a fortnight away. Race drivers Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock worked on fine-tuning set-ups and finishing off their groundwork for the first race. Jarno even set the fastest time of the day during a qualifying run while the track was at its best in the morning. He finished with 83 laps while Timo managed 65 after a more disrupted day. The next time Toyota will be on track with the rest of the F1 grid will be in Melbourne for Friday practice on March 14.

yet they are not the Toyota engines that come in our Civics. This has as little to do with our everyday cars as Indy racing does.

I think if you looked under the hood of an SC400 you'd be a bit closer...

Um, can I see the Civic youhave with a Toyota engine? (I HOPE you're being tongue in cheek...)

Let's put it this way...like I said to Scott, if you look under the hood of an SC400 you'd be a lot closer.

Needless to say, it's tweaked to all get-out.

Just like the engine in my Corolla. It was used in Formula Atlantic series racing...

This is a 1600 CC DOHC 4-valve/cylinder Toyota Atlantic racing engine. It is basically the same engine I have in my Corolla GTS. My Corolla puts out

120 HP. This one does a little more...like 240...
