Trying to restore a 79 bug. When i put the key in, it won't turn. I thought maybe there's a problem with the steering wheel lock but can't get it to turn.
any ideas?

Get a helper to rock the wheel left/right while you operate the key. That may coax the steering lock to release.
If it is the lock tumbler which is stuck, pour WD-40 or similar down the keyhole and work the key in and out.
After that, you may have to pull the steering wheel, turn/wiper switches and the elaborate security casting to get at the lock. I would do everything in my power to avoid this step.

You sure it is the correct key? I got a Bug once with the wrong key, drove me crazy until I figured it out.
does the key unlock the doors? did you put it in the correct way or upside down?
