A Couple Questions Concerning Engine Stands.....

Feb 12, 2004 1 Replies

Hi All, I have 2 standard engine stands that I have used over the last few years, and I was wondering if I need to purchase another engine stand to work on my 1776 engine or any aircooled vw engines that I may work on in the future. The one Stand's weight limit is 1250 pounds and the other is a 2000 pounder. I know I am fine on the weight limit but has anybody tried bolting them up to a stand thats a non-vw specified type? Any specific things I will need to do to avoid any pitfalls?

I plan on removing the flex plate (The 1776 engine has/had a VW003 Fully Automatic Transmission attached to it) before any work is started.

I plan on getting a Bettle over the next year and was curious do I need to purchase one for any work that I will do on the 1600 engine that it may have.

Thanks, Chris

I bolt the engine stand to the bell housing - works fine for

2L T4 It's a little more work when assembling an engine, but it's steady and doesn't put all that stress on the not-so-stout engine mount "ears."
