Emergency brake cable

Dec 09, 2006 2 Replies

I had to replace one of my emergency brake cables on my 1974 Super Beetle so I picked one up from Mid America Motorworks. After installing the new one I find that there is no brake action even with the nut all the way down the adjusting screw and the brake handle pulled all the way up. The cable is

1749mm in length and it looks like I need a smaller cable. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

1749mm is correct. 133 609 721

The only shorter one is 1742mm. 113 609 721F This was used on late 50's cars and I bet there is some quirk that it wouldn't work anyway.

You might have assembled something in the shoes/linkage wrong which is affecting it. Or the shoes aren't tight enough...

maybe it came un-hooked from the lever in the shoe area? hint' adjust the brakes (the stars) first then adjust the brake cables. good luck
