I want another VW

May 09, 2004 19 Replies

My wife and I have a 93 Cabriolet but it's not the same. Sure it's a VW and sure it shares some of the special little quirks that seem to be unique with VW's, but nothing beats and aircooled bug or Ghia. I had two 73 Beetles and a 71 Ghia at different times. I'm 34, got two kids... and damn it, I want another one. Grrr...this happens to me every few years. If I could get my hands on something drivable, without a lot of rust, and spend less then $800, I'd be happy.

Look around, you'll find something. Likely not for $800, but there was a 68 beetle for sale up in Odenton that went for $1000 about 3 months ago. In pretty solid shape, needed a tuneup, certainly no rust bucket - a clean driver. Check the Baltimore, DC & Philly papers, thesamba.com other car sites and if you are really looking, go to Manassas at the end of the month and the other nearby shows that are on tap. See ACVWs here in PG county all the time, most are late model drivers that wouldn't cost to much if for sale. - DB

Thing is, I hear people get deals like that all the time. I just seem to be a day late. I had a bug a few years ago..my 2nd 73 Beetle. I sold it for $700 and to be honest, I can't remember why. It wasn't in bad shape...had a little rust... not a lot. It ran... why did I get rid of it? I think I wanted the cash for something but for the life of me, I don't know where it went.

....most of the fellows there are in your area...they have a forum at that site that you can post wants and look at things for sale..it is not a real "busy" site(at least the forums) but as i said they are Local to you...BTW the site contains partial/full nudity pictures of women posing on/with/in vw's, so don't open at work or in the presence of a significant other......but i only go to the site for the forums anyway...hehe JT

Oh I forgot about the car show!!!! When is it? I went there a few years ago when I had a bug and saw a ton of deals at the time.

Are you married. If so, I can't tell you where it went, but can tell you who spent it. :o) Bill Berckman

You can drive mine for a day for $800... ;)

I won't say it's impossible, but methinks you're in the wrong state. I've had offers of up to $2k for my somewhat running, rusty old '78 Bus.

When I had my old '70 sunrrof, I put a 75 SB 1600dp and later tranny in it, new urethane mounts etc and then about 2 weeks later sold it for $100 to my mechanic who just wanted the engine. All it needed were floors and little body work. Wish I hadn't done that...

For sure. I see for sale ads on ebay in Cali for cars like that all the time. Around here a bug with rust and bad floors is $2500! Gotta love Michigan! I bought my 67 in Kentucky for $791 And I'll prolly have $7000 in it before I can drive it. :)
