Oil Filler Nut Gasket for '74 Bug

Cork is for the filler cap. Yes, paper originally. There was one in the engine gasket set that fit pretty well. I would make one out of gasket material. Use sealant on it!

I use the single port engine intake manifold crush gaskets there. Nice fit as I recall. No leaks, gasket won't break or slip out because it's (soft) metal.

The round copper ring? Yes, I've used them too and a perfect fit. Jim

I do have a round copper (or brass?) ring/washer that somehow came with the nut. It is a perfect fit, but should this be used instead of the paper (or cork) gasket? I.e., I guess it could be tightened enough to stop any oil from leaking?

I use the pipe wrench too, but there's a high risk of cracking the nut with it as the "finger" expands.. and then the aluminum around it cracks too.

If you use the cork, put it underneath the filler cup and make a paper (cardboard from a cereal pack is best) gasket to go below the nut. If you don't buy the cork one, then make two paper gaskets and put one either side.
