Opinion of Super Beetles

Is it just me or does the Super Beetle ride better than the standard? I like how my wife's '78 handles better than my '69 standard. It seems to be much more stable in the corners. Thinking about selling my '69 and getting my own SB.

Anyone else make the switch?

your right the design set up for a super is meant to handle better then the standards. I have just finished replaceing every thing on the front suspension of 2 different 73 supers and made them handle great, but its hard to compare them to a 69 vert that I just finished when driving down the road. The 69 also had every bit of the suspension replaced with a disc brake conversion and it road like a dream. Before you give up your 69 go thru the front end completely (tie rods, ball joints, shocks, steering stabalizer and bushings).

Somewhere I had heard that the front suspension on a super was finicky; that it was difficult to get tires balanced well enough to keep a super happy. True? False?

This is not an idle question; my brother's scared up a super convertible for me. It'll be some time before I can drag it home (mostly because I currently have no where to put it), but had been concerned about the rumors (since I'm a compleat idiot, I want something I feel comfortable working on).

Hey, I may want in on this too:

Send me a pic. Dependant upon her appearance, her condition-NO BONDO-and her cooking skills(plus a few others), I have three (3) disassembled standard Beetles in various stages of early restoration i.e floorpans done etc., I'm willing to trade. Also have several truck loads of various and sundry parts I'll throw in if she's a real hottie. Also, does she come with many household items? A washer n' dryer would be nice, maybe an ironing board, vacuum cleaner, or best of all a keg cooler(hey, a guy can dream) As John states above this had better be good. I therefore suggest a trial shakedown run of, oh say 6 weeks before finalization of deal. Any evidence of overheating, oil burning, poor acceleration, listlessness, worn out frontend, bad transaxle, worn out backend, migrane, neuralgia, iron poor blood, snappishness, nagging, psychosis, mental illness or PMS during trial run and said agreement is hereby null and void. Any rule, law, treaty, agreement, disagreement, not discussed here is subject to change by my attorneys at Boyd, Dewey, Screwem & Howe PLC Do not break this seal. Do not remove this tag under penalty of law. Your mileage may, can, and most likely will vary. Not resposible for typographical errors Yada, yada, yada

So when should I expect that pic?

Personally I don't like McPhearson struts - they seem weak & are not as adjustable (in most cases) for fine tuning the suspension. Plus they cost alot to replace. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"

But they handle much, much better than the torsion bar cars...

Supers handle much better that standarts, plus their front axels are far simpler and easier to work on. Many people disregard them because thay are not as old and vintage as standarts, but a beetle is always a beetle. Disadvantage: the steering box costs double!

I've owned supers for years and like them. Everything said is true and you will have to work on any old vw.
