That story was released a late last week.

The jist is that the supreme court ruled that a local/state government could claim emminent domain for the purpose of (promoting private construction) projects that would enhance the local/state taxes.

fyi: I dont agree with that ruling.

That's not the gist of the link he posted. Read it again. Instant Karma... is gonna get him.

And this is exactly how to fix this problem. Just need to figure out where the others who voted for this crap live. Great story. Thanks! Andy

Nobody voted for it. Nobody. Get it?

The Justices who voted for it. They did vote. Get it?

Yep. Bad reading on my part.

I think this law should be expanded to include "original domain". Under this, Native Americans could claim and build a casino where they want as long as it makes money for the tribe. More Karma?

They could revolutionize the casino enterprise by taking over abandoned Wal-Mart's, then program the slots to pay more often - discount gambling! Whew, that would probably bring the Feds on top of them like never before.

That's a liberal supreme court for you. It will be great justice if this guy can pull it off.

Dennis, not to be disrespectful or anything like it, but we(the current living american citizens) are not the ones who "stole" the land from the indians, we are not the ones who owned slaves, and we do not persoanlly owe anything to any one of them. I am stunned everytime I hear any reference to this stuff. This is 2005. Wehn was the last "theft" of property from American Indian tribes?........ when was the last Slave Freed?..................can we move on and quit the sniping????? and quit whining about what Our Ancestors owned or did or didn't do?...............Can we move on toward the future? wher the world will speak either Spanish or Chinese?????.............UGH!

OK,...............Sorry Dennis, but I am 40 years old. I have no living family that was part of any Manifest destiny.............I have no living family that owned slaves.............I have living Family that detests all of the above having happened in the history of The United States. I have Family that will live in the future..........But I have no living family that will live in the past..........I suspect this is true of all of us.

There may be a few of the living folks that were slave owners, and some that "took" the land from the Natives. Please join me in moving forward. Stop dwelling on the past. Be a friend and a Fellow American. Not a Naysayer and a negative input wizard.

You and everyone else in The USA have very nearly equal opportunity. If you don't, it's not because the law doesn't afford you that opportunity.

Liberal my ass. The case was started because of the Republican governor of Connecticutt. This same "liberal" court elected Bush in 2000.

And who will this decision benefit? Rich, right wing developers. They aren't usually liberals.

Let's see how the vote went down:

In favor: John Paul Stevens - appointed by a Republican (Ford, I think), voted conservative to begin with, but in the last 15 years has leaned more and more to the liberal side. Anthony Kennedy - Republican appointee (Reagan) usually votes with the conservative, but is a swing vote David H. Souter - Bush #41 appointee, but has always voted liberal Ruth Bader Ginsburg - Clinton appointee, always liberal Stephen G. Breyer - same as Ginsberg

Stevens, Souter, Ginsburg and Breyer constitute the 4 strong liberal block.

Dissenting: Sandra Day O'Connor - appointed by Reagan, about 50/50 swing vote Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist - Appointed by Nixon to court, made chief justice by Reagan, cornerstone of the conservative block Antonin Scalia - Reagan's last appointee. 99.9% conservative Clarence Thomas - appointed by Bush #41. 98.9% conservative votes.

The 4 strong conservative block consists of Rehnquist, Kennedy (usually), Scalia and Thomas.

O'Connor is the wildcard on the court usually.

The reason I said "liberal" is that the more liberal members of the court voted for it.

I heard something yesterday that applies to this. Up to the time a person is

30, they are usually a Democrat because they have nothing and want some of what others have. After 30, they start to acquire things, and turn Republican because they've worked for what they have and want to keep it for themselves. So even though you say this ruling will benefit the "Rich, right wing developers", it's the liberals who have allowed it to happen.

Actually I was a registered Republican until I was 45. I like John's input on discount gambling. A 40 year old man crying for several paragraphs that "I didn't do it" is not a positive message. Sounded more like a 14 year old girl to me. Fuck you moron if you can't recognize a humorous spin on a pathetic ruling.

I see you have it already,...............and use somebody elses acreage relentlessly with those off road vehicles too. Good on you Shag!

White man me all you want. I am part AI also ( not sure what percentage , as my family kinda thought it a useless thing to dwell on) and I don't get the whole "you owe me" concept that people have about their ancestors mistreatment. It wasn't them that suffered it. It was the father/grandfather/great grandfather (or female counterpart) that took the social or physical beatings............not the ones that are hangin' around today on evrybody's pity, and welfare dime or whatever it is they cling to.

I hate doin this but Opra Winfrey actually said it well, (I hate quoting her, cause I don't rightly like her) "the best deterrent to racism (or insert other social injustice here) is excellence."

She's a smart lady. At least in that perspective.
