When you do the roll cage, be sure to add some netting about where window-height woul be and upward - to keep your damned hand/arm from reaching out to "break the fall!" Common to have jeep roll over arm breaking it into tiny pieces!
Dad always wanted to mount the winch under the middle so there would be a long fairlead out either frontwards or backwards (the fairlead is what keeps the cable winding smoothly back and forth across the drum instead of piling up on one end) but I could never figure out how that could possibly help in a situation like you're in here! I wanted to add a hydraulic cylinder and an arm like the outrigger arms on cranes, but directly under the jeep. Done properly, each lift of the arm would move the jeep further ahead or further back. The pad on the arm could be rather substantial for added floatation and double as a skid pan while in the up position.
JC Whitney used to sell large "balloons" that you stuck under the edge of the vehicle, attached a hose to the exhaust pipe, and the pressure over the large surface area was enough to lift the vehicle.
I used to actually break drive shafts. Sounds like your transfer case or crossmember maybe didn't get tightened down and the sucker slid out of the yoke.
I recommend some restraints also, some that attach to your seatbelt harness to keep you from slinging arms out .

It's is not, it isn't ain't, and it's it's, not its, if you mean it is. If you don't, it's its. Then too, it's hers. It isn't her's. It isn't our's either. It's ours, and likewise yours and theirs. -- Oxford University Press, Edpress News
