Strange heat system on '63 Bug

Jun 03, 2004 4 Replies

Hey all, I've delved a little deeper into my '63 Bug project and discovered that it has stale air heating, not too unusual on an early '63, but what is off is that it has this single duct coming off of one of the heat ducts feedign into the heater channel on the right side of the car. The duct is plastic flexible hose which splits and leads to vents in the rear kick panel. The vents are narrow rectangular jobs, not hte usual big round ones most of us are familair with. Anyone ever seen this set up before? Keep in mind this car was bought in Wolfsburg by the PO. It is American spec everywhere else, bumpers, speedo, upholstery, etc.

This was a factory fitment on some sedans and convertibles on 62 and early

63 models.

Thanks for the info Peter. Do you know if this was an available option in cars exported to the US?

Does anyone have pictures of this setup?
