What size nut is this?

Douglas, I'm sure your caliper idea would work but I don't have a caliper. I should be able to pick one up cheap so maybe I will this time while I'm buying a socket. This nut is shrouded by the yoke to the extent that I don't believe I can get even the tips of a set of vice grip on it. I got the answer to my question from (surprisingly enough) a Jeep forum I posted the question to. Thanks for the suggestions, though, Douglas.

Ty a 1 or a 1-1/4 inch. Can't remember for sure. Go but a few from sears and bring the ones that don't fit back for a refund....Been a while since my last Jeep.....*8-}

Sears sells an adjustable wrench with a scale built in. Cheap calipers!

Cool. I didn't see that when I was there, but I did buy a caliper. It does inside and outside measurements and also depth measurements. I guess I was kinda looking for an excuse to buy one anyway. It was only about $10. Tool score! Plus bought a socket that will hopefully fit... I'll find out Saturday. I know you're all in suspense. :-) If it doesn't fit then I'll whip out my handy-dandy caliper thingie and measure my nut (giggle-snort!) and figure out what size socket I need to buy.

Don't you have the fancy wrench your wife bought you? Enough tools Shaggie. Use the ones you have ;)

Wow, around 30 responses now to my original post on this newsgroup about the size of my Jeep nut. heh heh. So far there are ZERO responses to the exact same post that I cut and pasted over there after realizing I'd posted to the wrong group (or did I?). I did get an answer to my question but it was on carolina jeepsters yahoo group that I also frequent/pester.
