740 or 240?

Evening fellas,

I love all of the RWD series volvos. I've heard that the 240's are more reliable than the 740/760. Is there any truth to this? Only trying to narrow down the choices, but I like them both so it makes it difficult.

Thanks Be Well

I've owned both for years, there's really not much difference from a maintenance/reliability standpoint. Some things are easier to fix on a 740 while others are easier on a 240. The 740 will generally have more bells & whistles so more to go wrong, but they're both good cars and should last a long time with decent care. Generally one can find a 740 quite a bit cheaper than a 240 in comparable condition, and you can get a relatively late model

700 series with a turbo so that's another consideration.

About the same for quality. I've owned both and like the looks and interior of the 740 more.

All things being equal, a 240 Turbo feels better in the twisties, because it is lighter.

A 740 Turbo is superior as a highway driver due to its greater weight.

A coin toss (I own both)

740 is actually slightly lighter weight than a 240, 760 is a bit heavier, but both are within 100 lbs.

Not according to the spec manual that came with each car.

Adding another to the pot - I've had 240, 740 and 940 - the 940 was by far the best, the 740 the worst. We'd still have our 940 if it hadn't been trashed by someone crashing into it while parked.

There isn't much difference between a 740 and a 940, what there is is only cosmetic.
