Sharan or Polo to USA??

Any word if either of these two models will make it overseas? The Sharan looks nice for a MV and would probably outsell the Eurovan 50 to 1. The Polo might help some low end v-dub sales. Any word?

I have heard that the Sharan can't come here because of some deal with Ford of Europe (I believe it was a joint venture)... or something stupid like that. The polo seems to be not much smaller then a Golf, and they probably can't bring it to a low enough price... either that or they can't make the bumpers meet our backwards (to theirs, ours aren't necessarily bad) laws or something.

My mother-in-law had a Ford (Galaxy?) minivan rental when she went to England last year, which I understand is almost identical to the VW. However, I thought I heard or read somewhere the Polo would come overseas as an intro-level model for the VW lineup, with the new sedan being built.

I've heard the same on more than one occasion. The deal was that VW wouldn't sell it here so Ford's US minivans wouldn't have the competition.

Yes... they were jointly developed and they're essentially the same car and platform and in many cases the same engines.

Yes. The Polo sedan is now manufactured in Brazil and it was seriously considered for the US (and could still happen) and hatchbacks might follow.

Really now... Polo would be alright, they look decent, would compete well with the cheaper stuff here, intro level civics, toyotas and such, maybe the hyundia elentra too.

Why, because they would get completely robber by superoir German minivan technology?

Sort of. Have you seen the new sedan? The hatches are find but I dunno about the sedan...IMHO VW botched it from the B-pillar on back where it looks like a Civic sedan and looks nothing like a VW or anything European.

I'd much rather have a hatch.

But if bringing in the sedan is necessary to get the hatches here, then bring it on I say!

Especially since it looks like one.

I'd put the Jetta and the Elantra as competitors based on size and I'd put the Polo and the Accent against each other.

I dunno....I think that the Polo Sedan has a high-end Volvo look to it....rich and elegant...

That car looks like a Jetta body, polo front end, Volvo S40 merged with a Volvo 940GLE back end (the 940 has a great back, the S40 is too rounded, this is in the middle)

It seems I agree with Peter on the looks :-).

I do agree that the details are nice and it looks like a "finished" product, and I'm sure the interior is typical nice-VW as well, but there's something about the shape that IMHO doesn't work.

True, but I just wish it bore more of a resemblence to a Jetta or Passat to have a "VW family" look.

well, give me a call and i'll chauffer you ;-)

and how many minivans might they actually sell? how many eurovans do they sell? i'm sure they would sell a heck of a lot more sharans than euros...

competition.
