PT Cruiser AC/Heater Switch

Since you say it doesn't work in the next-to-high setting EITHER way, I don't think its the switch that's bad. My bet would be that its the blower motor resistor block and that the resistor for next-to-highest speed has failed.

The resistor block is located in the cowl at the base of the windshield, passenger's side, underneath the cowl screen, just inboard of the passenger's side strut tower. Gotta remove the windshield wipers and the cowl screen to get at it. It looks like a wiring plug that would go into the dash, but it actually pops out of the firewall after you unplug the wires from it.

If you do have to get at the switches:

- Pop the small panel with the window controls out with a flat blade (preferably plastic, but a screwdriver will work if you're careful not to nick the visible part of the panel).

- Remove the screw behind the window controls, and disconnect the plug to the window controls

- Remove all the HVAC knobs by pulling

-Pull the center fascia off. It'll take a good pull because its held by spring clips.

I saw an explanation and photos of how to remove the connectors from the headlights and it showed two blue plastic pieces on the sides of the connector and said those should be popped out to release the connector from the bulb. Maybe the same applies to the blue pieces you are seeing.
