90 YJ Steering Column Grinding Noise

Jul 04, 2004 3 Replies

I have a 1990 YJ. In the past month the steering column makes a grinding noise, and though it sounds like it is near the steering wheel, I know it probably is not.

Also, turning to the left and right is a bit harder - like the Power Steering is going?

I drained the Power Steering fluid (though it was not leaking) and refreshed it with a sealer. Again, nothing is leaking.

Replaced the Power Steering Belt, but no change.

Is it the pump?

Thanks.

It's probably a front u-joint or hub. Raise the front axle off the ground and turn the wheels by hand... try steering left and right at the same time.

Have sense, patience, and self-restrain,and no mischief will come.

through the fire wall, and a U-joint that looks like it is getting loose....lou
