Tire noise

Et All I've got Duler AT Revos on a 2000 Tj. I have about 12000 miles on them so far. Nice tire, holds exceptionally well in wet weather, etc. That said, the things are loud and getting louder. Instead of a contstant road noise, which i would have expected, they have developed a slight wap, wap, wap sound. I had Firestone check them thinking I had one seperating but they said no, that was just normal tire noise. I had my Jeep guy drive it he said they sounded like they might be cupped and should go away with rotation and normal driving. Just curious as whether anyone else has experienced this with these tires? Not really a big thing just irritating as hell... Joe Carroll

I sure would suspect a seperated belt with the wap, wap, wap sound. Keep a close check for bulging places on the tire tread. All of them if you can't pin-point which tire (hard to do sometimes). Tom T

Actually that's why I was asking. They are rated very well and I have no other complaints. My first inclination was tread seperation or wheel bearing but I've checked all those things . It's a distinctive noise with no noticeable vibration. Joe Carroll

Hi Sometimes, just 'cupping' will cause the sound you describe. Might want to check and see if you need an alignment. Mine were cupping some, and the tire dealer said that I wasn't rotating often enough. I realized that he was in business to sell tires, so I decided to get an alignment, and my 'cupping' has stopped. You can check this by feeling along the tread. If you feel 'ridges' one way, and not in the other direction, the you have some cupping due to wear.
