101 Dizzy woes!!!!

No, unfortunately just what started life as a standard 1150. I would seriously look at replacing it with an Adventure with the low first gear if I used it enough.

If you are serious about buying a 1200GS I recommend a test ride that includes your worst possible hill starts, preferably two up. I would, even now, be very wary about a hill start on some of our more 'scenic' Lakeland passes! Bear in mind that it has a dry clutch and the engine produces a surprisingly modest amount of power for such a heavy machine and the gearing is too high (IMHO). It also doesn't help that the engine and gearbox must be split to change the clutch. Touratech do a nice line in ceramic clutches which _should_ outlast the rest of the bike. In a way they are a bit like Range Rovers: in that the people who ride them MUST have a sense of humour otherwise they'd buy something that produces far more power, costs less to maintain, has better lights, brakes, gearboxes, better fuel consumption etc but has no character. Oh and it is still, basically, a pre-war two-cylinder tractor engine!

I tried the KTM Adventure & whilst i love KTM's, the insurance was horrific & I mean horrific. I could insure a ZZR 1100 for hlaf what they wanted. It's cost me £200 to insure the beemer, fully comp with agreed value. that was through BMW insurance too!

The Adventure BMW is ace, just like nothing on the road, one day soon...........

Tempting. Although Bradford is a long way from Sevenoaks. And I'd have to visit my uncle in Morley (grandparents lived at Baildon Green outside Shipley).

And I have never been brave/foolhardy enough to take the GS off the tarmac :-(

A fact well known to any local resident! If I wanted a real pigout when I lived there, it was Bryan's Fish Restaurant in Headingley. Perfect fish'n'chips in every detail. You could get a Jumbo haddock that they served on oval plates about 10" wide, and the fish used to hang over by at least 4" at either end. Even I never managed one of those, although I have watched people have a go. Some succeeded.
