AVM free wheel hubs

Hi all!

I just bought a pair of AVM free wheel hubs on eBay, for my SIII (10 splines).

Does anyone have a manual or fitting instructions that I can check? And what maintenance do I need to do?

Thanks a lot.

hiya,

quite straight forwards really,

remove the fixed drive flanges and just bolt the free weelin ubs in its place, just make sure the lock/free is functioning ok.

youll probably know this already but if you dont,,,, DO NOT DRIVE LOCKED ON TARMAC.

You'll need some new gaskets as well.I have AVM FWH and they are a pain to get the gaskets for,in the end I bought a sheet of gasket paper and cut some out myself.

I think you are confusing things a bit there - it is 4 wheel drive that shouldnt really be used for prolonged use on hard surfaces(in fact it is quite alright to use it if going fairly straight, it is when you start turning tight corners that you may start to get 'transmission wind up').

The FWHs only disconnect the wheel from the final drive, which reputedly saves on fuel costs (less weight for the engine to turn).Yes, in effect they are doing the same thing as taking it out of 4WD when disconnected, but there is no real reason to not just pull the 4wd lever and put it into rear wheel drive, rather than getting out and disconnecting drive on both front wheels.
