Hello thought I would warn everyone got an email from someone claiming to be FBI saying you're ip address has been logged on several illegal sites please answer the questions attached. do not open the attachment because fortunately for me (thanks to a good friend Si K) I now have a decent ant virus setup that told me straight away , thank god, had enough problems recently with sods like that. So beware the supposed sender is snipped-for-privacy@fbi.gov delete at first sight,

The FBI's remit doesn't run outside their territory. Neither does the CIA, although they currently seem to think otherwise!
No I live in England but I was pointing these out because there are people out there with less equipped pc's that could fall foul of these low life's trying to hack into peoples accounts and stealing information for their own gain .

Never ever reply, open attachments, touch hyperlinks when someone asks for information in this way and it is an exchange that you have not initiated yourself. If they genuinely need your response they'll find another way of asking.
As for helping the FBI - would you help any UK government department just because they asked? I sincerely hope not!

To try to be helpful, it's generally accepted that it's best not to try to be helpful by passing on every alert - for fear of creating more noise, and disrupting the "to the signal" ratio. IYSWIM? HTH, HAND :-)
One could almost derive, from this comment, that you'd been watching "Sneakers". If so, you may have discovered my second secret in this unruly and occasionally untidy world...
The craze for ranting about top-posting is all well and good, but unfortunately we're now in the position where people don't top post but do quote innumerable levels of previous posts instead of just snipping the stuff that's relevant to the points they're trying to follow up. As a long-term poster, I'm sure you've probably noticed that too. Damned annoying but at least we don't seem to see much in the way of HTML posting any more (at least I don't anyway).
There's a woman at work who keeps on forwarding on those spoof viral emails, e.g. the one about people driving around with their lights off waiting for someone to flash them, then following them and killing them as some kind of gang initiation ritual. She's forwarded on just about every single one of them to the whole company, last one was the one about Microsoft tracking your emails and sending you cheques if you forward them on. Every time I follow up pointing out that googling for a few keywords in the post will verify it as a fake but she never gets the message. I also emphasise that anything that urges you to "pass it on to all your friends" is highly dodgy, but she never takes any notice. Perhaps I shouldn't include the bit about passing on my advice to all her friends.
