Satisfied Mercedes Driver

Hi All

Traded my Disco 300Tdi for a Merc C-Class in July 2003, realised immediately it was a mistake. It took all this time to recover and now I've traded the Merc for a RR 2.5 DSE, at last I'm a satisfied customer.

Chuffed to bits they've forecast snow this week but DVLA are holding things up, I can't drive it (legally) until documents come back after cherish transfer.

I'm a bit worried about mpg, computer says average 14.5, what's everyone else getting out of theirs? TBH it doesn't matter, I'd like more but it's a fair price to pay for an awful lot of car.

It's good to be back

Agreed.

Worse I've ever seen is just under 20 and that is only once.

Taking it easy you should be able to get 30+. Average around 26-28.

Mine is a 2.5 DSE (manual) with nearly 200k on the clock!

Thanks Nige As if the DVLA hadn't upset me enough...............

I guess that I really need to trial it when I start to drive it regularly, just wondered what the average seems to be - I think the book says around 26 but I don't believe that. It's due a service in about 1500 miles so if it's not improved (considerably) by then I'll get it looked at.

Thanks Matt It's Auto so that'll make a difference but not to this degree. As soon as the paperwork comes through I'll run it properly and report back. Should be about Wednesday if DVLA come up with the goods.

Remember that computers can go wrong - do a proper check (brim it, drive at least 500 miles, brim it again and do the maths) before condemning the engine!

26 is certainly not out of the question for an Auto. I was speaking to a guy the other day with an auto and he said he was doing 28 on average.

I saw a buyers guide a couple of months ago that reckoned the manual was

12% better than the auto on fuel. Of course, it all depends on how you drive. I'd certainly say that consistently under 20 means there is something wrong, no matter how you drive! Even if I really thrash the car fully loaded (which is regularly is!) I still get 22-23.

Hmmmmmmm.... Thanks Tony, I figured that one already.

Actually I had a similar problem with the wife's car but cured it when I realised that she thought the choke was a clever little hanger for her handbag. ;)

Well

DVLA called yesterday at around 13:30, that's the 7 working days almost to the hour so I made the trip from home to Stretford and back in about 1 hr 40 to collect the docs (and that's not bad at all on a Friday afternoon).

I took her out for a spin and boy has it been worth the wait. Superb drive, comfortable, effortless, acceptable performance (not bad at all for diesel, but she's no sports car). Everything I missed about the Disco and more besides.....

BUT

the best thing about the experience was watching the average mpg climb to

28.9, then I came home & picked up SWMBO & went to Sainsburys. Naturally average mpg dropped to below 21 round the car park but what the heck. I'm happy as a pig in shit.

Regards to all
