Things that never make the news...

Good, this is sort of what I hang possesing a 6 D cell Maglite on. If I hear a noise outside, at night, and go out to investigate it is perferctly "reasonable" to take a torch. The fact that it quite long, heavy and rigid is not relevant...

Quite, taking it out in daylight after hearing a noise would be a different matter.

I can honestly say two is nothing compared to four.

How about a rush hour load of 80+ people, 90% of them unwashed and stinking to high heaven, at least 2 screaming kids, a dozen one sided phone calls, and at least 20 "personal" stereos, And don't even get me started on the joys of the "school special" And people wonder why bus drivers are not generally happy people

Tho if your shift patterns are anything like ours , it does does seem like it.

O.T. why can wagon drivers only drive for 4.5 hours without a break, but bus drivers can drive for 5.5 ???

Because the bus industry toadyed up to the government and got an opt-out from the EU Tacho regs for local runs. Routes over 30km have to comply with EU driving regs anyway tho.

probably every carpet fitter has a stanley knife... and if he was attacked while holding it, well, I would too, I reckon.

I thought that was why the transpondian dibbles were issued with same?

if they're running on tachos (such as tour coaches), I suspect you're wrong. However, scheduled service buses don't have to have tachos. Do they use the old "british" hours?

Perhaps, as a means of defence, but not during a 'fight' between two existing adversaries.

There are others on the site as well and some poeple very knowledgeable about knife law.

You will probably find an answer there, but it's basically if you can give a valid reason for carrying it you will be OK.

If a carpenter has a knife on him on the way down the pub then they will commit an offence. Forgetting it's there isn't a defence.

If the carpenter is on his way to work and has a knife then he/she is ok.

So I'd advise that when your going to the lanes and on the lanes your ok but otherwise tuck it away securely at home.

Against the law. Its a bloody offence against common sense. My entire family carry penknives that constitute an offence, now we're all criminals even though we've not hurt anyone in living memory.

The nutters who want to hurt people will carry knives with nothing but contempt for the law. All that law did was empower bureaucrats.
