Uprating springs

Jul 02, 2003 1 Replies

I intend to fit a huskey winch and bumper onto the front of my TD5 Defender

110. I have been told that it is a good idea to upgrade the suspension springs to carry the extra weight. However I have a few questions....

  1. can I upgrade just the front pair only or is it better to do all four?

  1. I have been recommended to replace the standard springs with ones that are 25% stiffer and that give a +1" lift, is this correct or would just stiffer springs suffice?
  2. if I go for a 25% stiffer where do you get these, I see plenty of ads for 'Heavy duty' springs are these the same?

Thanks for any advice.

Tony

I would say no. It will do funny things to the handling if you upgrade just the fronts. Upgrading the back on thier own is fine.
