You'll do well to get more than about 15 mpg average, unless you drive it very sensibly.

Well... with the 3.5 disco (1991) which is hotwire, running light and steady got about 18. Putting me toe down or heavy towing dropped it to not-much. An 84 Rangie is gonna be on carbs, which doesn't really help.

With carbs I was getting about 13.5mpg.

I used to get 12mpg round town and up 20 on the motorway. But I have a very heavy right foot.

My '84 manual EFI did around 14 mpg local and on a good day on motorway (London and back same day) could manage 23 mpg. '85 auto 16 and 21 on Strombergs, (same trips).

I had a freakishly economical '85 manual EFi that never seemed to drop below 18 mpg, did something mental like 26 mpg on a run.

The turbo one I've had for the last couple of years, um... it never seems to get more than 18 mpg, but on average it's nearer 11.
