Which oil for noisy top end?

The one that comes with a new cam, cam followers, pushrodes, rockers and timing chain. Oil alone isn't going to make a difference.

Had the Discovery done not long ago by a local ex-landrover trained mechanic. Made all the difference on how the engine performs. Cost us about £750 with parts,labour and VAT included. Bruce did consider doing it himself, but just didn't have the time, and he would have had to cleared the bottom end of his workshop of all the wood he's been saving, moving around for years.

Hi Nige, Check you haven't got a loose spark plug - you'll get a similar noise. Seem to have a knack of either seizing in or working loose sometimes on aluminium heads. Andy

Make sure you use a Landrover plug spanner, or at least a very very thin walled plug socket as anything else will result in the thread being threaded when you tighten the plug due to the limited access.
