Dipped Headlights.

Agreed - in fact I go as far as to say rear foglights should NEVER be us= ed. If you can't see the tails in time in fog, you're driving too close= /fast. I prefer to see when the car in front is braking.

I'm surprised they didn't try to get you into trouble for it. They usually try to backfire it.

Agreed. Blue is for emergency vehicles ONLY.

I didn't realise this was done on purpose. How exactly does that bully people? If someone does that to me I deliberately slow down and refuse to let him past.

Why would you need any more than 5 watt lights at the front to be seen? That's what you have at the back. The brighter front lights are so you can see.

Err why not?

Do you put lights on in your house when it's daylight too?

Because they serve no purpose apart from distracting other drivers.

I leave the exit lights on at work. But I don't use lights at home to warn me of hazards, why do you?

I don't understand how?

If you cannot see a huge lump of metal without it having a light on it, how the hell are you going to see a child about 4 feet tall and about 1 foot across?

Or are children being compelled to have lights on as well?

How do you imagine where lights get their energy from?

It has to be generated by using fuel to drive a motor, which means an increase in consupmtion, and less miles per gallon!

The brain is pretty good at seeing things moving against the background in peripheral vision. Burning the retina doesn't help.

I expect pedestrian casualties will be worse because drivers can't see them against the oncoming lights...

Depends on how far away things/vehicles without lights can be seen. Very often the problem is cause by all the bright lights.

You've missed the point of his question.

alan holmes ("alan holmes" ) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

I've not seen many children running at 50mph, though.

Which rather demonstrates the need for them to have lights on at all times.

Er .....

NO.

"From early 2011 all new types of passenger car and light van will have to be fitted with dedicated daylight lamps".

"The UK has been successful in arguing against the introduction of mandatory use of dipped headlamps during daylight hours by drivers of existing vehicles."

It's still a fairly daft idea although my 1993 model Saab had DRLs fitted as standard but I've pulled the fuse now since it made it look silly.
