Escort 1.8 Stuttering problem when decelerate then accelerate

Hi all

I have a yearly recurring problem on my ole Escort Ghia X 1.8

At low revs (2000rpm ish) if i take my foot off the accelerator then accelerate again the car kinds of dies like it has no fuel for a split second then picks up ok. It does this always after taking my foot off then replaying power at low revs. If I rev up first (using the clutch) then decelerate and accelerate its fine.

I took it to a Ford garage who said "ah yes we can fix that" and charged me £100 to fix it, this was about 13 months ago and it's just starting to do it again. I know it will get worse in time too.

Any ideas?

The car needs a full service ASAP but I would rather go in there with some knowledge as to the likely cause of the problem.

I don't know if its related but every once in a while the revs stick between

2000 and 3000 after ive taken my foot of the accelerator and it slowly (over 3 or 4 seconds) drops to idle at 1000, I can make it drop faster by tapping the accelerator tho. This happens roughly once a week.

Cheers Anim

The second problem sounds like the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). It could be related to your first problem too but it may also be an ignition related misfire.

Sounds expensive....

I guess that means I need a garage to check the computer for faults?

Being a student can suck sometimes :|

Thanks Anim
