Help with warning lights on renault

Apr 05, 2004 5 Replies

Hi Just wondering if someone here has any idea on a problem I have. I have a 1999 Renault Laguna 1.8 RT (old style). The oil, temp and stop lights on the control panel stay on, when a rev up to pull away they go off but the rest of the time they stay on. The temp gauge reads ok and the oil and water are ok. Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance. Terry

If this only happens when the car is hot then it sounds like you have low oil pressure. This could also be caused by a faulty oil pressure switch, when it would probably occur hot or cold.

First cheap option is ground the wire to the oil pressure switch, if all is ok after that, then you know the area to investigate, a new switch would be the next step, an engine rebuild the next !!

Not 100% sure.....but I think the oil temp goes into self test after start up for about 15 seconds and then goes off.... so if that is so then your symptoms are normal. Start the car.... let it idle.... see if it goes out after 15 - 20 seconds without moving the car, that way you know that the vehicle moving is not linked/linked to the problem.......then to satisfy your mind call a Renault dealership and see what they say. As I said...not 100% sure...But I THINK it is normal.

Hi The lights stay on all the while from cold. They do flicker on and off when I start to rev up to pull away but then stay on. Will try out the idea of mrcheerful and report back, any more ideas please post.

Thanks Terry

Terry, Check where the wire runs down behind the timing cover to attach to the oil light/temp switch. From memory I think that the older Renault 21 wore that wire through on the driveshaft at the drivers side.... worth a look.... would also explain why it comes on when you move,
