I need to change the locks on a Fourtrak, I have a replacement set from a breaker. There's a plastic ring with wires attached around the lock barrel which I take to be the "receiver" to go with the transponder in the key. Does this actually match the key and send an "OK" signal to the wiring, or does it just transfer the key code somewhere else? (I'm planning spare keys from my local lock shop and I want to know if I need the "old" or the "new" key code).

It's just the transceiver for immobilizer, and simply reads the code and sends it to the immobilzer control module, located else where on the vehicle.
If your locksmith's any good, he'll know.
The ring is just an aerial, the code is interpreted elsewhere.
Thank you both; I'll leave the old "ariel" when I swap out the barrels and get my lock guy to chip the new keys to match the original
