Just a stone chip or a paintwork problem?

Got dinged by a small stone the other day and spotted this big chip in my bonnet today. (VW touran)

It's bigger and flakier than any stone chip I've ever had before. As the car is only two weeks old I'm a bit peeved.

It looks like bare metal showing at the base of the chip and I'm wondering if I've got a problem with my paintwork or whether I've just been unlucky.

Next question, what to do? Leave it (assuming the bonnet is galvanised), get just the chip touched up or the whole bonnet resprayed?

A paint problem, take the car back and get it sorted under the manufacturers warranty.You will notice the same on other parts of the car soon.

Some modern finishes are not as durable as they used to be.  Definitely go tothe dealer first, at the very least to register the fact it has happened.  Ifthey value your custom, I doubt you'll have any trouble getting it sorted.Avoid a respray - it always tends to age differently from the rest.

It looks a bit like the paint isn't especially well stuck to the primer. I'd take it to the dealer and see what they think. I expect the bonnet is galvanised, but anti perforation warranties tend to state that all paint chips etc. must be repaired.
