Lost Midi van key

hello all

I've lost the (only) set of keys for my Midi van. I hadn't locked it so I can get into it but not start it. I gave Vauxhall the VIN number and they gave me the key number, so I had a new key cut. Turns out that this key only works in the doors and not the ignition (originally I had two keys - one for doors, one for ignition, from the previous owner) so the ignition must have been replaced at some point. Therefore I've no idea what the key number is and no way of getting it. There is a 6-figure number stamped on the steering assembly right above the barrel, but I don't think that's it.

How easy is it to remove the ignition barrel and replace it? I've got the casing off but I don't really know what I'm doing so I've stopped there.

Do breakers/dismantlers sell reclaimed ignition barrels/keys? Vauxhall quoted me £142 + vat for a new lock set and I don't want to pay that. There's no immobiliser or anything electronic and the steering lock's not on.

any advice?

thanks Andy

I've got the ignition lock to pieces on a Citroen before now. Not too difficult to do. I don't see why a breaker shouldn't sell the locks and keys but you may have to go to an off the shelf place because a pile em up place may simply chuck the keys away once the cars in place.

Car ignition and key from a breakers yard - start at about =A320 .

If the breaker decides your midi van is a commercial (even if it isnt)=20 you can expect at least double that .
