Mondeo cambelt change

My 98 Mondeo has now done 60k miles and is ready for a cambelt change.

I want to change all the parts (belt, tensioner and rollers) - my question is should I buy Ford parts or should I get them from my local discount centre?

I've been quoted around £80-£90 for the Ford parts & £52 for the parts at my local motor discount centre. These are branded Q&H (I think) - never heard of them are they any good?

From previous experiences what I don't want to do is buy 'Ford' parts only to find they're Motorcraft or other such brands as I can buy them cheaper from a non-Ford centre. What option should I go for?

Thanks

Motorcraft *is* Ford. If we are talking cambelts then you should really go for the Ford/Motorcraft part.

Thanks for that, however I think it would be wise to go for Ford parts especially for something as serious as a cambelt.

In that case, where can I get original parts at the cheapest prices? I've just tried

and asked for the part prices so willhave to wait and see how much they can do it for. In the meantime, doesanyone know where else I can source Ford parts at good prices? Anywhere inWindsor-Woking and surrounding areas preferred. Thanks again

Ford do a kit of parts - cambelt, new pulley wheels (they're plastic, get brittle with age/heat and can fail before the belt does), new tensioner spring, etc. The FINIS code is 1112530. Mine cost £74.40 (+ VAT) last July.

If you are doing the job yourself, you will also need to fabricate a metal bar to hold everything in place.

According to the book, the job takes 2 hours, but there isn't a lot of elbow room at that end of the engine.

Steve.
