Dear All,
Whilst completing a major service on my 2.2 Ghia X, I decided that I wanted to check and possibly top up the manual transmission fluid. Trouble is, despite extensive inspection, I couldn't find any type of filler hole at all!
On my previous Mondeo, the gearbox filler plug accepted a large, allen key, and was easily visible on the side of the gearbox bellhousing. In fact there were two plugs, one for filling and another lower down - I guess for draining.
Anyway, I've noticed a slight reluctance to shift into fifth gear these days - so I'm keen to check the fluid level without delay. The gearbox is the earlier type of six-speed design - where reverse is selected by pushing hard to the left against a resistance (to move through the 'gate'), and then pushing the lever forward. I also think (worryingly enough) that there might already be a slight fluid leak.
Anyway, my Haynes Manual only covers cars built up to 2H / 2003, and therefore doesn't provide the right location. Can anyone shed any light on this.
Thanks to all for their help
PS: And that's another thing... I can't even find the drain plug for the radiator on this damned car!!! (this one is less urgent, though)
:o)
