My Nissan Almera 1.6GX (1996) has been parked on my drive for about eight months. Every week, I have started the car and run the engine it until the temperature gauge registered normal. This morning, it would not start, although it turned over freely, so not a battery problem. Any ideas?

Has anyone cut your fuel line and drained it? Not sure if they're vulnerable on this car...

The fuel gauge reads about 1/3, so there is petrol in the tank, although the last time I refuelled was last January. Surely unleaded petrol would not degrade in this time and also it started first time last week. I have 5 litres of fresh petrol in the garage - is this worth a try? However, I'm now suspecting an ignition problem.

It could be a humidity-related ignition problem. If it starts in the afternoon when the humidity is lower, wipe the ignition leads and connectors clean and look for cracks in the distributor cap and rotor.

While you've got the distributor cap off, look for an engine oil leak into the distributor. Sometimes a seal fails in these Nissans, and the advice seems to be to replace the distributor if this happens.
