Re: Talking of Mondeo boot locks...

Where is the button? I can't see anything anywhere. There's a lever for the fuel flap by the driver's seat on the floor, but no sign of anything else.

It sounds like a fault with the actuator, which is basically a soleniod. It sits behind the lock - access is via the boot.

I took it all apart today, and can't see any way the lock can be make to pop out in order to be pushed in again.

Anyone with a series 2 Mondeo estate like to confirm that the button does indeed press to open the tailgate or whether you always have to use a key?

ah. in that case it does sound like a knackered button.

The button should fire the actuator

What button where? Do you mean the barrel on the boot lid should protrude and be pressable?

Right, I'd better go and fettle it.

mmmmm just reread your original post, and realised it's an estate.

- I used to have the hatchback.

Does the key go into a round silver button? if so yes, it'll be the same as the hatchback, otherwise, not sure.

And lo! A good fettling later and it works as advertised.

Why car makers use dissimilar metals on a lock that's bound to get salt spray all over it is beyond me.
