So in that case, with a garage full of 'trained' personnel there will be very little chance of a problem being missed [1], but if an untrained person is being checked by another untrained person is just quite possible that they would both miss a problem neither of them are aware off.

Well, we would have to look back into MOT fails and into accident reports. I suspect the figures are out there but I have never seen them collated - So to answer your direct question, no !

I'd say the numbers are so small as to be meaningless. Nor could they possibly be given as a percentage - which is the important bit. Other trade organisations have tried to have DIY work banned on the basis of safety - CORGI being one on gas supplies - but failed to convince even a government 'committee' of the need for this. Doesn't stop them lying about them being the only ones allowed to work on gas, though.

If you want to lobby for the banning of DIY work on car related safety items such as brakes, I'd say you've got the wrong group here, as most have many more stories about poor garage servicing than you'll find about dodgy DIY.

the centre pipe is the pipe that runs along the centre of the car, obviously :) the rear offside link pipe is the one that, as I understand the ford lingo, is the flexi pipe that lets the wishbone swing while providing the brake fluid in a flexi pipe (again, obviously) but if they say it is corroded then I'm going to assume it's the pipe that runs along the back of the wishbone

no one keeps them in stock so you will have to measure them up and get them made from someone, but you are talking about a few quid

reading your other posts you say you also need a calliper (I know that ford do rear exchange unit's for about the £60 mark or you can always go to the scrappy and pick one up for a tenner off of any sierra/Granada as they are all the same) and the pads need doing (so you'll need the windy tool from halfords)

the main question I have to ask is "does it have abs?" if it does the bleeding process is totally different to anything I've ever had to do on any other car f*ck it up and things go very wrong in a hurry

what else? make sure you bleed the whole system once you are at it rather than just the rears, it's worth it, but again, if you have abs, don't let the fluid run out in the reservoir or you will get problems

anything else sierra related and just put a "FAO DOJJ" post up and I'll sort it ;)
