Vectra (latest) Steering problem

Anyone had a problem with the steering on the Vectra?

I've an 03 plate with 95000 and yesterday I noticed that there seems to be a delay when making a quick steering adjustment (going on my drive involves switching from lock to lock for example). It feels like it as no power for a split second.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bezzie

That is the symptom of a loose or slipping belt

Bit hard on a system with Electric Power Steering ;-) Could be a number of things. Faulty rack, faulty EPS unit, bad power connection to EPS, weak alternator, faulty yaw sensor.

Only way to find out what's going on is a diagnostic check.

sorry, didn't realise they changed from real steering (older vectras were very definitely hydraulic), so it sounds like the standard Vauxhall 'you need a new column, that is 750 quid please' like on electric corsas then.

They've still got a conventional power steering rack, just that the pump is electric. Early vectras have the pump inside the o/s/f wing/bumper area, whereas the facelifted ones have the pump tucked down the back of the engine bay (there wasn't room on the earlier vectras to fit it in the engine bay).
