Ford Puma

Yeah, Yamaha would never have let a sticky valve problem rear it's head on a finished design.

But you're missing the point. One mans beauty is anothers ugly.

Putting looks aside, the Pumas' drive is superb. The only fault of the 1.6 is the brilliance of that 1.7. It's a superb piece of kit and it's mated to a smooth, supple, flat handling chassis and suspension.

Quite if it's the modern day Elan, well that's another argument...

I second it. They're top banana. I wanted one but the insurance was too dear, so we went for the smaller cousin.

The Puma and Ka have a very similar set up, except of course the standard Ka has less power, less grip, a more supple ride and more interior space.

The Ka with the 1.7 Puma donk and Ford Racing Suspension, well that's something else. It has shorter gearing than the Puma so it quicker under the motorway speed limit... :)

Ya, the 2.0d worked for me. :)

It's fair to say that they're an acquired taste. I love the look of them, Charlie says they look too old.

Yes, derivatives of the Kent are still in production these days. It's either well proven or old.

For huge numbers of people, it's "good enough," heh.

I'm saying absolutely nothing at this point in time, I'll let the evidence in Dervy's case speak for itself.

Neither did the designers at Ford. The issue was caused by inadequate training and too stupid numpties putting any old oil in it, 'cos that's what they did with their other Fords.

It would be just like sticking any old oil into any other engine.

Yeah, a while back one mate of mine told me that the Straight-6 Vauxhall lump the Lotus Carlton engine is based on, was originally based on an old Vauxhall diesel engine. I mentioned this to another mate, and he said "yeah, except for different compression, spark plugs, this that and the other different - so what you're saying is they've both got cylinders".

Shoot, the demo 206CC we had a play with had a knackered hood.

Knows of none at all? You sure about that?

The 307's complexity is the problem. It's superb when it works, it's pants when not.

Kinda like the S60, if you add something to the car you need to tell it. Except the 307 has issues, the S60 works...

No, they have a rust guarantee.

the front drive elan? Proof to the world that front drive can be good. Designed IIRC by peter stevens, and weighing just the wrong side of a ton, and powered by a little turbo motor... 160 bhp and 6s to 60?

Yes, the puma, heavier, lower powered, not nearly as pointy to drive. Nothing like it.

Wasnt talking abut the 206 though :)

Very. Coz i was argueing with him the other day about it. Personally i dont like the 307, too bland, i prefer the C4 coupe. he's the other way round.

The insurance is a bit dear, but since she's now opting for a second hand car rather than a new one, its not a problem

We we're wandering round the second hand cars at the Ford dealer down the road and i suggested a Ka, looking at a dark metalic blue one, was actually quite smart looking but i got told where i could stick it :)

She has some sort of taste, then.
