Goodwood FOS

Had my annual outing to Goodwood Festival of Speed today :)

Despite crappy weather forecasts all week, the rain just about held off for most of the day. All we had were a couple of showers.

An excellent day out was had. As usual there was millions of pounds of automotive exotica about and some great drives up the hill. Some not so great too - especially the guy the totalled the Aston DB9 GT car going round Molecomb and managing to complete about 5 or 6 complete spins and smashing every corner of the car!

Highlights of the day was getting to see the 405 T16 Pikes Peak car in the flesh, up close; the 27 litre SD1 (again); rally cars and their drivers in general, but especially Petter Solberg - what a legend; and finally the Toyota sculpture thing outside Goodwood House.

There was a post about the resto of this car a wee or 2 ago. It was real back to the bare metal and beyond stuff.

Cool.

Ah yes, well spotted!! It certainly looked good.

Nice photos.

I'll have the Lancia 037, 405 T16, Alfa 8C Competizione and SWB Quattro, please.

Thanks! Shame I forgot to take my spare memory card, as I was running out of room by midday. Reverted to using my phone instead sometime in the afternoon.

There was an Alfa 75 Turbo there too, but it was covered up when I walked past it and I missed the photo opportunity when it was going up the hill :(

You need a less pikey memory card ;-)

I have a 2gig card which I usually use in my Exilim, although I've recently bought a 1gig SD card that has a USB connector on the other end, meaning I don't have to take a card reader out and about with me.

Funnily enough, I've just spotted one on ebay.

I keep having evil thoughts about finding a 75 Turbo engine, complete with turbo etc. and working out if I could fit it to a TSpark lump.

Yeah this is true. It's been on my 'to do' list for the last year or so!!

So what was the turbo lump? A 4 cylinder? I was secretly hoping it was the v6, but it was so damn quiet as it went up the track I couldn't tell - all you could hear was the turbo.

It was based on the 1.8iE lump, so it's a 4-pot and every closely related to the TSpark engines.

Not very good TBH, but they're there anyway:

Bah I was getting through 6 gigs a day at silverstone. Didn't take many photos today actualy, I'll have to upload some when I get home rather than sitting on the end of a rather un reliable wireless link.

We should have had a urcm get together, at one (or all) of the bars.

Heh, only if you were paying!!

The 405 gave me wood. I wish Goodwood wasn't *hella* far from here...

It isn't that far. At all...

Compared to where I am it is around the corner from you.

Fraser

... when compared with Le Mans, Monza or Indianapolis, no.

Now Snetterton is a pain to get to and it's only 200 miles from York.

nice every year i miss out on it gutted!

anyone know if ITV are going to do a proggy on it anytime?

also was that an SD1 with a V12 i spotted among them pics!!!!????

Yep, that would be the 27 litre SD1 I mentioned ;)
