Well, my current favoured quick saloon is the Saab 9-5 HOT Aero.

Same kind of tax, probably better on fuel, but with a f*ck load more performance, and available with a decent slushomatic box.

Because you're not a real petrolhead unless your ride has comfy seats, a monster heating system and passes all the swedish single vehicle accident crash tests?

Because most modern 'quick' cars are sterile compared with a proper old-school RWD car with no driver aids.

So if I want a quick everyday car, it may as well be quick with comfy seats and loaded with toys.

Exactly.

If I drive the way I normally drive, I'll be doing a dervy in no time. I love the dash layout, like a good quality watch with the instant fuel readout as a swinging needle.

Not quite.

Like a cheap Taiwanese copy of a good watch ;-)

I did think of that as I pulled out of the car park.

It was never going to happen was it, nice, sensible, dirty oil. But newish and reliable should be enough. And it doesn't need super- unleaded which is a bonus.

I was a bit buggered off about the MX5, at the same dealership there was an ALFA 2.0JTS and the Lexus.

Missus like the ALFA because it was shiny blue. I liked the Lexus because it RWD.

I assume that for similar money, the Alfa was several years newer.... but RWD is so important in the daily crawl along the M60 ;-)

Only in age. Technology, quality, reliability...

£4k. A little over the odds, but one owner, full Lexus history and totally mint inside. Just a few chips on the bonnet but I need to take it back to get those sorted as they didn't have chance before I picked up. Got 7 days free insurance so I could tax it, just need to swap my own insurance over. The trade in was a token gesture because it looked like the 5th gear team had done the sledge hammer test to it. Every panel including the roof had either a dent, a scratch, rust blebs or more severe surface rust. And it saved me having to store it while I sold it. Took the pikey bluetooth Lidl headunit out and put the original Philips VDO one back in. Weirdly the old one remembered all my presets, even though it hadn't had power for 7 months.

Can't remember. But they don't list it on their site and it is well buried in the stock.

They do list this 147 though.

Way too much money.

You can buy that spec. brand spanking new for under £10k. (ie. on a 58 plate)

Have to say the A6 2.5 TDI they have would have been the one I was taking home. But that's cause I'm older than you ;-)
